El Inverters

Inverter Technology
Durel was the first company to introduce IC based switch-mode DC to AC inverters to the EL backlighting market. With six years of experience, over 50 million devices shipped and strong relationships with our foundry partners, Durel offers a wide range of inverter products that cover the performance map. Durel inverters are powerful, efficient, quiet, economical and require minimal external components and board space.

IC Inverters
Durel inverters offer a wide range of performance choices. Our newest technology offers low-noise performance ideal for sensitive applications in handsets and other portable applications. The D361 low-noise inverter is the first of many products to offer this technology. All Durel inverters are available as either bare die in wafer form or waffle pack, or as MSOP packages in tape or reels.

Product Selection
Durel inverters based on a unique "3P" circuit, are designed for matched lamp-to-inverter system performance. The "3P" topology is the basic building block of all Durel inverters and offers designers the simplicity of a single DC input, single AC output, and a shared common ground. This "common ground" advantage reduces system noise when compared with H-bridge style inverters and eliminates the need for expensive 3-layer lamps. Selectively driving multiple lamps with Durel's "3P" topology is simple and requires the addition of only a single external component for each additional lamp.

Durel's patented low-noise circuit design is now available in Durel's D361 inverter, which is specifically designed for use in noise sensitive applications such as handsets and other wireless communications products.

Durel inverters offer unmatched low variability in system performance.

D340
The D340 is the smallest, lowest cost IC inverter in our product line and requires only a single inductor to complete a circuit capable of driving up to 5 in2 (32 cm2) EL lamps. The D340 features a regulated output voltage of 140 Vpp from supply voltages of 1.2 - 6.0VDC. The standby current from the power supply is normally 6nA, which is ideal for low-power portable products. The D340 is offered in an 8 pin MSOP by tube or tape/reel and in die from by wafer or waffle pack. A Durel D340 Designer's Kit is available as a tool for optimising the circuit for your application.

D355
This IC inverter offers superior efficiency over a wide range of input voltages. The D355 requires only two external components, one inductor and one capacitor to complete a circuit that will drive EL lamps up to 20 in2 (129 cm2). The D355 operates with supply voltages of 1.0-7.0VDC, and features low standby current. The D355 is offered in an 8 pin MSOP by tube or tape/reel and in die form by wafer or waffle pack. A Durel D355 Designer's Kit is available as a tool for optimising the circuit for your application.

D356
The D356 provides performance specifications similar to that of the D355. Their designs differ in that the D356 uses an enable high switching system while the D355 offers enable low. All Durel inverters enable power through this single pin, whether high or low.

D361
The D361 offers low-noise performance for handset and other applications that are sensitive to the mechanical and electrical noise generated by the industry's pumping inductor IC inverters. The D361 patented circuit design minimises system noise by reducing the rate of voltage discharge from the lamp. The D361 requires one external inductor, one transistor and one capacitor to make a complete EL lamp driving circuit with a supply voltage range of 2.5-6.5VDC. It delivers high AC output voltages and features low standby current, which is ideal for low-power portable products. The D361 is offered in an 8 pin MSOP by tube or tape/reel and in die form by wafer of waffle pack. A Durel D361 Designer's Kit is available as a tool for optimising the circuit for your application.

D365
The D365 is a high-powered EL driver with low-noise performance for backlighting handsets and other applications that are sensitive to audible and electrical noise. Based on the Durel 3P circuit, the D365 also includes a proprietary circuit design that minimizes system noise by reducing the rate of voltage discharge from the lamp. It only requires one external inductor, one transistor, and one capacitor to make a complete EL lamp driving circuit with a supply voltage range of 2.5-6.5Vdc. Featuring low standby current the D365 is ideal for low-power portable products. The D365 is offered in an 8-pin MSOP by tube or tape/reel. A Durel 365 Designers Kit is available as a tool for optimizing the circuit for your application.

D371
The D371A lamp driver is part of a family of switch-mode IC drivers intended to reduce EL system cost, improve performance and to simplify the design, specification, and manufacture of EL backlighting systems. This driver is optimised for cellular phone and databank backlighting applications.

D372
The D372 EL driver delivers a regulated high-voltage AC signal for use in backlighting EL lamps with areas up to 12 inch squared. It also features programmable wave-shaping for low-noise performance in applications that are sensitive to audible and electrical noise. This EL driver operates efficiently over a supply voltage range of 2.0-6.5Vdc. External capacitors or clock signals may be used to set the lamp output and inductor switching frequencies. The D372 is offered in a 10-pin MSOP by tube or tape/reel and in die form by wafer or waffle pack. A Durel 372 Designers Kit is available as a tool for optimizing the circuit for your application.

D381
The D381 EL driver is a very efficient power device based on the Durel 3P topology for driving EL lamps in PDA's and large LCDS in handsets. It can drive other devices, such as piezo actuators requiring a high voltage AC signal as well. The D381 features Durel's proprietary programmable wave-shaping option for low noise performance and external capacitors or independant clock signals may be used to control the output frequency and inductor switching frequency of the device. D381 operates with a 2.0-7.0Vdc supply voltage. In the MSOP-10 package, it is configured compatibly with the Durel 371 but it is also available in the 8-pin MSOP in tape/reel. A Durel D381Designers Kit is available as a tool for optimizing the circuit for your application.
